9 Things That can Hurt Your Job Search
Sunday, October 10, 2010

There are plenty of tips and tricks to give you the best odds of getting the jobs. However, here are some things you can do to hurt your chances getting a job. Here are 9 things to avoid during your job hunt.
1. Having a resume full of spelling and grammar mistakes.
2. Not keeping tracking of your resume submissions to companies. Companies don't want to hear, "Wait, who are you?" when they call to schedule an interview.
3. Applying for a job that you are not qualified for or didn't read instructions on how to apply
4. Treating a phone interview as if it were a regular conversation instead of an actual interview.
5. Not keeping it professional, at any point during the job/interviewing process.
6. Showing an unwillingness to learn new skills if needed.
7. Showing up late to the interview with no apology.
8. Dressing inappropriately for the interview.
9. Being uninterested in the job itself and more interested in the benefits.
Keep in mind that a job interview is not all about you, it's about the company's needs. That's why there's a job posting! Keep it professional and show them that you are the right candidate for the job. This goes beyond simply having the right skills and experience; this involves your sense of professionalism and ability to work with others. Keep in mind that every little thing counts. Even the slightest mishap could keep you from getting a job.
